International business and foreign trade is P. Luc Dupont’s passion which is reflected in his track record at Export Development Canada (EDC), one of the leading Canadian financial institution supporting export sales and international investments. His international business development leadership, insights and acumen have consistently and effectively been demonstrated through sustained business growth strategies in Emerging Markets in regions such as Latin America and the Caribbean, Southeast Europe and Turkey and India.

Additionally, as one of the key architects of the expansion of EDC’s international network entailing some 20 foreign representations abroad (Asia, Europe, and Latin America) he also led the development of the strategic and operational frameworks supporting this network, now an essential element of EDC’s value proposition.

International business entails considerable investments in terms of human and financial resources at a time when competing opportunities need to be differentiated against robust business criteria. To address this range of issues, he has developed a strategic planning methodology guided by the establishment of business objectives, by market, by sector and by segment to maximize the impact of business development efforts on the bottom line.

Strategy execution is supported by the establishment of processes of collaboration which included incentive measures, partnership training and an optimal leveraging of information technologies.

P. Luc Dupont founded UNAK – International Advisory Group in 2010. Eduardo has recently joined the UNAK network of collaborators after a distinguished career at Petróleos Mexicanos (PEMEX), one of the largest oil and gas companies of the world. He brings to the group of broad and far reaching expertise in the financial structuring of projects in the energy sector.

In 1992, he joined Pemex as Deputy Manager of Bilateral and Multilateral Financing, initiating the relationship with the Export Import Bank of the United States and the former Export Import Bank of Japan as well as Export Development Canada preparing the ground for a fruitful and productive long standing relationship with these institutions.

Prior to joining the Finance division of PEMEX he held several posts at the Project and Construction department (for the development of cost control system for the development of industrial ports), Maritime Transportation (developing the information system to control the costs and volumes of petroleum products transported), Budgeting department (developing systems to control the amounts allocated to projects).

Earlier in his career, PEMEX, Eduardo assumed key responsibilities in dynamic companies such as:

  • Tomen de México where he increased the amount of trade of steel, chemical and textile products between Japan and Mexico in more than 100% as Manager of Trade;
  • Automanufacturas S.A., where he implemented the Production Control, as well as the Cost and Accounting Systems as IT Manager;
  • Aisin Seiki Co., a subsidiary of Toyota Motor Co. in Kariya, Japan where he got a diploma for the best idea to improve a production line.

Eduardo has professional proficiency in Spanish, and English, and knowledge of French, Japanese and German.

 

Ajay Jain

Ajay brings with him over 17 years of international experience in private capital & infrastructure investment, corporate finance, portfolio management and business strategy in India and Canada. He brings with him knowledge of global financial and infrastructure investment markets, and relationships with large institutional infrastructure investors including pension funds, crown corporations, multi-lateral agencies, sovereign wealth funds and developers globally. Currently, he's advising select India clients on their growth plans and fund-raising strategies, with focus on renewable energy and transportation sectors, while engaging with large institutional global investors for a suitable investment model.

Most recently, Ajay led the SNC-Lavalin Inc sponsored India infrastructure fund initiative. He led first significant infrastructure investment (c.US$40MM) for SNC-Lavalin in India. Previously, he has worked with large infrastructure investment firms like Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan ("OTPP") in Canada and IDFC in India.

He was founding principal of the US$1bn India Infrastructure Fund ("IIF"), sponsored by IDFC and Citigroup. He played key role in raising capital commitments for the IIF, especially from the North American and the European investors, and led initial investments for the IIF for projects worth c.US$750MM. He was on the deal screening committee of the IIF, and represented the Fund on the Boards of its investee companies.

At OTPP, he worked with the global infrastructure investment team in Toronto. Geographies of focus included America, Western Europe, and Australia. Some of his key assignments included buy-out of InterGen portfolio of power plants (c.US$5Bn) across the globe from Shell and Bechtel; French toll road privatization; and AltaLink divestment et al.

Ajay has earlier worked with Merrill Lynch, Ernst & Young, Lazard and the RPG Group, where his assignments involved transactions across industry sectors including infrastructure and privatization. Ajay has an MBA degree from Queen's School of Business, Canada, where he was selected for the Dean's Honor List. He holds a Bachelors Degree in Physics from St. Stephen's College, India.

Stephan LE GOUEFF is the founder of LG@vocat, a Luxembourg based business law firm focusing on mergers and acquisitions, financing transactions, company law, commercial law, commercial disputes, real estate intellectual property, IT and media.

Born in Montreal, Canada, he studied at McGill University (1982 B.A., B.C.L; 1983: L.L.B.). In 1984, he started as a trainee at the McCarthy Tetrault firm in Montreal. Then, he obtained a D.E.S.S in international business law in Paris I. In 1985 he became an associate with the Lette & Partners in Paris. In 1986, he is recruited by White & Case in Paris, where he was involved in banking, mergers and acquisitions and project finance. In 1990, he came to Luxembourg to join, and thereafter to lead, the legal affairs of SES-ASTRA, a leading satellite communications operator and satellite communications service provider.

Those professional experiences, carried out in different countries, as much as an International firm lawyer as the head of the legal affairs dept of a large hi-tech firm, prompted him, in 1995, to create what is now LG@vocats.

In addition to the management and development of the firm, his main fields of interest are negotiation and the drafting of large industrial or hi-tech contracts, mergers and acquisitions, private equity and financing transactions. He also advise on media law matters and IT law.

Cémil has recently joined the UNAK network of collaborators enabling an extension of our reach in Western Canada (Alberta). He brings to our group a rich and diverse experience in the financial sectors namely through his expertise as Chartered Accountant and a CFA Charterholder.

His professional career started at Price Waterhouse, working on audits and consulting mandates spanning a large variety of businesses. He later migrated to Export Development Canada to manage portfolios of emerging markets banking debt, notably from Brazil and Russia as well as Japan. After heading the regional trade finance for HSBC in Quebec, Cémil launched the Canadian asset-based lending operations of a US banking group where he dealt extensively with turnaround and mergers & acquisitions scenarios. He was subsequently hired by Royal Bank in its commercial real estate and later worked in branch in Hinton, Alberta where he currently resides. In parallel to his professional activities, Cémil is a committed citizen who has consistently volunteered in a number of community functions such as Board Chair for a private school, panel judge for international MBA competitions, local politics and civic volunteer and more.

This balance between professional and community experience provides Cémil the capacity of lateral thinking and finding outside-the-box solutions that are grounded in the reality.

Cémil is proficient in French and English and has knowledge of Japanese.
